Hi All
I'm doing some work on my family tree and was wondering whether anyone could help me...
My great-grandparents used to run the Mason's Arms in Bridge Street, Blackwood in the 1940's-1950's. They were Idrisyn and Florence Jones. They were assisted sometimes by their son Graham and daughter-in-law Betty (my grandparents) and son Jack and daughter-in-law Olwen. They also had a daughter named Norma and son-in-law Ron. They left Blackwood c.1959 to move to Portsmouth.
I'm wondering whether anyone has any memories of the pub at this time, or any photos? I visited Blackwood for the first time last weekend and found the pub boarded up and the lease for sale. I can't tell you how much I wanted to go inside and look around!
So, I would be grateful for any memory, no matter how small, as the info I have about them and their time at the pub is very scant.
Many many thanks
Paula

Hi there, Paula. Several generations of my husband's family were born and brought up in a street very close to the Masons, so I will pass a copy of your message onto them in the hope that they may remember something. I cant promise anything because the older generation have all passed on now, but it's worth a try. You must have been so disappointed to find the Masons boarded up - it's a travesty that the name was changed beforehand, and probably karma that it didn't prosper!? I'll let you know if anything comes of it. Very best of luck with tracing your family history, in the mean time, feel free to join in with the forum fun!
