I was passing Ynysddu the other day and needed to find a shop before going to work. I pass Ynysddu nearly every day and have never actually drove through the village. I found a lovely little shop called The Mog Cabin I think it is called. Great little village shop. I also noticed that there is a publib house and a Community Centre and Church. I am not sure what else is there, but I found it a very quiet, pleasant little visit. Could anyone tell me any more of what happens there or what it is like to live there. Thanks

Hi Rob
Where are you from yourself? Why there have been 50 views of this thread yet no reply I don't know! I moved to another area of the village several years back with my parents at the time, they have since moved to the bungalow of their dreams. I decided to stay back in the village moving to the High Street, not far from the shop you mention, spending a lengthy 4 years completing rennovating my first house aound work.
I really enjoy living here, it was a shame that we recently lost our post office (that was previously where the shop is now, the shop was once the other side of the river). However Ynysddu holds a lot of character for a village that many people perceive as a "ghost town" because they usually do nothing more than just drive through.
The road through has been greatly improved with the newly built walls and fencing, replacing the old wooden mess. There is a school behind the Church and a floodlit enclosed activity area nearby. At the other end of the village are the playing fields, rugby pitch, a few football pitches, a cricket pitch... then there are numerous pubs and the hotel all in walking distance.
Step out of our back door and within minutes we're on the Sirhowy Valley walk, a very relaxing and enjoyable route along the mountain, take a look at what else the walk offers on caerphilly.gov.uk
Hope you continue to enjoy your drive through each morning.
Wes

Worth mentioning, I forgot to add that near the playing fields there are also two tennis courts and a bowls club!
