CAERPHILLY 18 - BLACKWOOD 23
Blackwood stormed back to form with this thrilling victory over the League leaders at Virginia Park.
After the disappointment of losing at Fleur-de-lys, they looked fired up from the start, and Jeremy Lloyd was tackled a yard short of the line, a try had to come, and after inter play between Aaron Elliott and David James, James went over the line. Lloyd converted.
Caer looked to respond, but their discipline let them down, and after losing 20 metres for descent, Lloyd punished them further by dropping a goal after the resulting penalty and line out.
Caerphilly opened their account with a Dean Watkins penalty, but it only served to galvanise the visitors and after sustained pressure, the excellent Andrew Coupe barged over. Lloyd converted.
Watkins kicked another penalty, but the home side were having problems with the re-starts, and after Gareth Short recovered the kick off, the Blackwood backs spun the ball wide, and Kristan Perry was just bundled out in the corner. Half time came, with the score 6-17.
Blackwood seemed to raise the wrath of the referee after the break, and along with Coupe getting yellow carded, Watkins added two more penalties.
Gallant defence then kept the home side out, and good line-out work by Marc Gwilt, enabled the visitors to break out. David James made the most of it when he kicked a long range penalty. Watkins and Lloyd then exchanged penalty kicks, and at 15-23 Blackwood looked safe.
But the referee still found time to sin-bin Luke Knight and gave Watkins the chance to score his 6th penalty. The visitors though held on for a well deserved 18-23 victory
