BLACKWOOD 43 - NEWPORT SARACENS 17
A hat trick of tries by David James illuminated this comfortable Blackwood win at Glan-yr-afon park.
It certainly didn't start that way, as the Saracens opened the scoring in the first minute, with a Lewis Culverwell try. James Didcot converted. The lead didn't last five minutes, as James scored his first try. Paul Emmanuelli converted, he added a penalty before James went over for his second try after good work by Gareth Rusby-Davies.
Emmanuelli and Didcot then exchanged penalties to end an entertaining first half 18-10.
A worry for the home side came with the floodlights failing, but fortunately, light was restored in time for the second half kick off. Unfortunately for the Sarries they continued in the same vein, as too many penalties were being given away, Emmanuelli punished them by converting two of them.
The visitors wouldn't give up though, and Scott Robinson scored after a quick tap penalty. Didcot converted but alas for them it would be the last time they trouble the scorers.
Andrew Coupe then restored order, by finishing off a length of the field move, engineered by Sean Emery, and Kristan Perry, James converted and followed that up by securing the bonus point with his third try.
Youth outside half Ryan Lee then lit up proceedings, with an interesting cameo on his debut. First he added a conversion to James' try, and then put the icing on the cake with an outstanding solo try to give a final score of 43-17
